Through Start in, AXA develops collaborative innovation

While contributing to two of the Group's strategic priorities in its digital transformation, this global program aims at accelerating internal innovation and fostering intrapreneurship among its employees.
The first edition of Start-In was sponsored by Véronique Weill, Group Chief Officer. This global innovation program gives every AXA employee - whatever their field of competence, country, or hierarchical position - the opportunity to propose ideas to solve key business issues. Employees were invited to be innovative about two themes that align perfectly with the Group's digital transformation strategy:
  • Big data: How can AXA use it to help customers lower their personal risks?
  • Mobile insurance: How can AXA use mobile devices to create new opportunities for customers?
During five weeks, employees from 153 business entities all over the world posted more than 350 ideas on a dedicated platform. At the end of a thorough selection process, the four winning teams participated in a four-day "hackathon" in order to turn their ideas into prototypes.
The first AXA Innovation Summit held on September 17 at Group headquarters in Paris was the opportunity for the teams to demonstrate their prototypes to other employees as well as the Group Management Committee, with the ambition to bring them to market as quickly as possible. It was a unique chance to promote intrapreneurship within the Group and find inspiration on how to make innovative ideas grow in big companies.
Spurred by the success of this program, AXA is already preparing a second edition for 2015, with brand-new themes.
